Coastal Zone Environmental Resource Management Project Objectives

There are several objectives that have been drawn up.

Nationally,

1. to support ecologically and ecologically sustainable development in the coastal zone management issues by enhancing the participating countries to address coastal zone management issues in an integrated and sustainable manner,

2. to obtain maximum development benefit from data on the biological, biophysical and socio-economic issues through the use of spatial information technology such as geographic information systems (gis) so more efficient and effective utilisation of data and information by the political/bureaucratic/development elements with government and the community,

3. to facilitate more efficient transfer of data and information from data collection and storage agencies such as universities and government agencies to the resource managers particularly the policy and decision makers,

4. there are needs for human resource development in relevant fields including information technology as well as coastal zone resource management,

5. enhancing data standardisation and data access mechanisms.

Regionally,

1. the czermp will also facilitate regional collaboration that leads to: -

· improved coastal zone management,

· assessment and mitigation of coastal and marine pollution,

· sustainable utilisation of living and non-living resources, and

· protection of biodiversity.
