ASEAN-AUSTRALIA Economics Cooperation Program Phase 3

National Environmental and Resource Information Centres (NERICS)

Nerics are centre of technical excellence created under the asean/australian economic cooperation program (aaecp) phase 3, coastal zone environmental and resource management project (czermp).

As a whole, nerics are identified and supported as part of the institutional strengthening part of the aaecp3. it has the following features that are identified to achieve an asean-wide standard capacity:

1.      hosted by an environmental or resource management department within the national government structure,

2.      have a prior capacity in spatial information systems.

The nerics for the czerm project are to enhance capacity to execute a pilot-scale project addressing issues of national importance dealing with resource management

of the coastal zone.

All these activities will be supported by the provision of:

1.      specific hardware (additional workstations, digital data storage capacity , or peripherals {digitiser/printer/plotter}),

2.      project-wide software (arc/info, arc/view),

3.      specific staff training in :

o        introductory integrated coastal zone management (iczm),

o        an introduction to the application of it to iczm,

o        arc/info, grid, tin and arc/view,

o        train-the-trainer skills,

4.   support in the carrying out of their chosen pilot-scale case study.
