ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCE INFORMATION CENTRE

 

General Information


BACKGROUND

Large proportion of the land surrounding the Brunei bay have undergone considerable development such as urban, recreational and industrial and at the same time increasing proportion of the country's population is residing around it. Such increase in population and activities around Brunei bay can have adverse outcomes to the bay unless appropriate management measures are practiced. This is where neric can avail its assistance by giving current digital atlas of any environmental issues such as the current level of the water quality in Brunei bay etc.

The establishment of the national environmental and resources information centre known also as the neric, will facilitate the end-users involved to consolidate all the environmental data of Negara Brunei Darussalam. The neric will also be the nodal centre for data communication and ownership arrangement. At current stage, environmental data are taken from the participants of the national steering committee. They are: -

environment unit, ministry of development,
2.
town and country planning department, ministry of development, 
3.
survey department, ministry of development, 
4.
drainage/sewerage section, public works department, ministry of development,
5.
pollution control unit, ministry of health, 
6.
biology department, university of Brunei Darussalam,  
7.
geography department, university of Brunei Darussalam
8.
environmental affairs, Brunei shell petroleum sdn. bhd., 
9.
marine department, ministry of communication, 
10.
fisheries department, ministry of industries and primary resources, 
11.
forestry department, ministry of industries and primary resources, 
12.
museum department, ministry of culture, youth and sports.
