BRUNEI DARUSSALAM'S STATUS OF INTERNATIONAL
AGREEMENTS ON THE ENVIRONMENT

Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (1985)
Subject :      To take appropriate measures to protect human health and the environment against adverse effects resulting or likely to result from human activities which modify or likely to modify the ozone layer.
Entry into force : 22 September 1998
Amendments  : -   
To do : Implement preceding Montreal Protocol.
 
 
Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (1987)
Subject :       To protect the ozone layer by taking precautionary measures to control equitably total global emissions of ozone depleting substances.
Entry into force : 1 January 1989.
Amendments :   1990 London; entered into force 10 August 1992
1992
Copenhagen; entered into force 1 January 1994.
Status :       Acceded to 1987 Protocol on 23 May 1993, entering into force 23 August 1993.
To do : Implement provisions (e.g. data reporting) and accede to 1990 London and 1992 Copenhagen amendments.
                   
 
Basel Convention on the Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal (1989)
Subject :    To govern the movements and disposal of hazardous wastes at international as well as at national levels. Ultimate aim is to cut to a minimum amount of hazardous waste in the world.
Entry into force 5 May 1992.
Amendments : (a future Protocol may be introduced).
Status : Under consideration.
To do : To accede and implement provisions contained within.
 
Framework Convention on Climate Change (1992)
Subject : To stabilize greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere at levels that will not dangerously upset the global climate system.
Entry into force : -
Amendments : -
Status : Under consideration.
To do : To accede and implement provisions contained within.
   
Convention on Biodiversity (1992)
Subject : The treaty has three objectives (i) conservation of biological diversity; (ii) sustainable use of its components; and (iii) fair and equitable sharing of the benefits that result from the use of genetic resources.
Entry into force : 29 December 1993
Amendments : -
Status : Under consideration.
To do : To accede and implement provisions contained within.
