A FOREST fire broke out near the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) area in Jerudong this afternoon, with Jerudong's Fire and Rescue Department managing to extinguish the blaze after two
hours.

Two fire trucks were deployed to the scene, led by Deputy Station Officer (DSO) Ting Ling Ling, after receiving a call at 3pm.

The area has been known to be susceptible to forest fires especially during the dry seasons, according to a Fire and Rescue Officer from the Ops Section.

Despite the strong winds and the speed of the spread, the fire personnel said that ``the fire can be controlled''.

The personnel added that even though the main cause of the fire may be due to the dry season, he did not rule out the possibility of a disposed cigarette butt from starting the fire. (SHS1).
