MEETING OF THE BRUNEI-SINGAPORE WORKING GROUP ON THE ENVIRONMENT

16 April 2025 - Brunei Darussalam, through the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, Ministry of Development hosted the 17th Meeting of the Brunei Darussalam-Singapore Working Group on the Environment (BSWG) on Wednesday, 16 April 2025 at the J Hotel, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Brunei Darussalam delegations led by Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Martinah binti Haji Tamit, Director of Environment, Parks and Recreation, comprised officials from the Ministry of Health, Department of Water Services, Department of Drainage and Sewerage, Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, STEP Centre, Ministry of Education, Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) and Brunei Climate Change Office, Prime Minister's Office. Mr. Ananda Ram Bhaskar, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Environmental Protection), Director-General of Environmental Protection, National Environment Agency led the Singapore delegations which were composed of officials from the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, National Environment Agency and Singapore's National Water Agency (PUB).

The meeting was convened by Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Martinah binti Haji Tamit and Mr. Ananda Ram Bhaskar, in their capacities as the Co-Chairs of the 17th BSWG Meeting. During the meeting, both countries provided updates, shared information and explored further collaboration opportunities on existing projects and programmes in the areas of solid waste management, air quality management, water resources management, environmental youth programmes and climate change, as well as other areas such as environmental public health and oil spill management.
Brunei Darussalam and Singapore have strengthened their bilateral cooperation in environmental affairs and climate change, instituted under the renewed 2022 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Bilateral Partnership in Environmental Affairs and Climate Change. The MOU, first signed on 27 August 2005, is to promote cooperation between both countries in the field of environmental protection and management, water management, climate change and sustainable development.
