Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation
The Environment Unit was established under
the Ministry of Development in 1993 to serve as the Secretariat to the
National Committee on the Environment and coordinate matters relating to
the environment in Brunei Darussalam.
New government department formed
BY consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang
Di Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Prime Minister’s Office announced
that His Majesty has consented to the formation of the Environment,
Parks and Recreation Department that will be responsible on issues of
landscape and maintenance of recreation parks in the country, RTB
reported.
The department will be placed under the
Ministry of Development as a full department and headed by a director.
With this formation, all sections and units in the ministry and
concerned departments that provide landscape services will be merged
into the new department.
The sections and units involved are the
Environment Beautification Section, Technical Services Department,
Public Works Department (PWD), Crops Industry Unit, Agriculture
Department, Parks and Garden Section, Municipal department, Bandar Seri
Begawan, Kuala Belait and Seria Flower Garden Section, Seria and Kuala
Belait Municipal Department, Flower Park and Recreational Areas, Tutong
Municipal Department, Maintenance Section, Brunei-Muara District
Department, Maintenance and Services Section, Belait District
Department, Accommodations Maintenance Section, Tutong District
Department and Recreational Maintenance, Temburong District Department.
The formation of the Environment, Parks and
Recreation Department took effect on the 1st May 2002, while the
administration changeover of all sections and units involved with the
new department was on the 1st July 2002.
